I got up to a 3 to 1 k/d ratio in this game’s multiplayer yesterday before I realized I just wasn’t having fun. I then proceeded to slap on a Riot Shield with throwing knives and just try to kill enemies without getting massacred. This was the most fun I had in this game and I was doing horrible. So, what gives? Shouldn’t I have more fun doing well, rather than fucking around?
No, not in Modern Warfare 2.
I was hoping ranking up in this game and unlocking new stuff would increase my enjoyment a little, but it just wasn’t happening. You know, there are always going to be flaws in video games, but these can be fixed in sequels or patches. IW has terrible fucking community support though, so as always, I knew I had to wait for the sequel to COD4 before getting what I wanted from this franchise. What I got was the exact opposite of what made the most sense and what would have been the most fun for a sequel to COD4, though. What I got was an unbalanced, flawed, skill equalized mess of a multiplayer game.
This is actually the most unbalanced COD game yet due to the extreme buff all the assault rifles got. SMG’s are now made pretty obsolete due to machine pistol and shotgun sidearms, as well as the inability to attach heartbeat sensors to the SMG’s. Akimbo 1887 shotties completely destroy all the other shotguns in this game, not to mention really show how terrible the SMG’s truly are, as they are severely outclassed by a sidearm. How could you take steps BACK in balance when this is your 4th time making a Call of Duty game, honestly? Oh, wait, you have to skill equalize this game for the baddies, I remember now. Otherwise you might lose some sales for the sake of better and more fun gameplay, and we can’t have that.
In COD4, the M16 was overpowered and that was really it. In WaW, the SMG’s were overpowered, but there were just 4 of them, and if you kept your distance you could mount a defense. In MW2, 7 out of the 9 assaults are overpowered; they are good at any range, are super easy to use, are all completely swayless when aiming down the sight and they all have low recoil. You could argue the LMG’s are overpowered as well as they carry these same traits, except they lack in mobility and have a bit more kick to them. But hell, every weapon is so good and easy to use in close/medium range, it simply becomes a connection battle in most one on one scenarios anyway. Unless you’re using an SMG, in which case, you better hope you shoot first and have the better connection.
MW2 seems to have suffered the same fate Gears of War 2 suffered; being way too overhyped and then being a huge letdown. I can count the amount of good things about this game’s multiplayer on one hand, and I can’t even begin to count the amount of flaws and problems on all of my fingers and toes combined.
Just off the top of my head; I can’t play in a party with more than 1 friend or someone gets kicked out every time we join a match. This has happened every single time I have tried to play with a group of people, and we all have open NATs, so the matchmaking is effectively broken in that regard. Someone getting a 4 kill streak (3 with Hardline) can randomly get stuff like Chopper Gunner and AC-130 which is random and dumb; randomness always makes for terrible gameplay in a shooter. Good scores in this game aren’t about out gunning the enemy team, they are about building a single streak. This causes a lot of problems.
For instance, lets say a guy who gets 20 kills with his physical GUN by shooting enemies (he is unlucky and his kill streak rewards before that are shot down or miss or something), but say, dies twice at a 10 kill streak before getting his 11 kill streak reward, finishes the game at 20 and 2. Fair enough, he did well and got a great ratio, but didn’t get any reward for it at all because of bad luck and everything being based on a streak. Now, let’s say there’s a guy who is 7 and 5 before he starts doing remotely well. He gets a 5 kill streak after dying his fifth time, gets a predator missile and luckily, the enemies were out in the open and he kills 3 of them with the missile. He then calls in a Harrier strike which then luckily gets him 3 more kills, and then he gets his chopper gunner at an 11 kill streak, which nets him about 20 kills as he spawn rapes the enemy team with an overpowered kill streak reward. And this is all without doing a single thing after he gets that predator missile. The guy who actually did MORE work and got the better k/d WITHOUT streak rewards doesn’t get shit because of bad luck, while the guy who was 12 and 5 can get lucky and go on to finish the game at 38-5. Its mostly luck whether or not your killstreak can build itself up enabling you to get your final big streak reward which is just stupid. There is just too much emphasis on a single one time streak and not how well you do overall or k/d wise.
With building an effective streak comes an extremely careful and campy style of play, which is quite frankly boring. The maps have all kinds of little obscure balconies and rooftops which promotes a boring/frustrating campy style of gameplay even more so. Deep Impact is no longer a perk, but an attachment that takes a long time to unlock for each weapon, further promoting window/rooftop camping. Being aggressive with a close quarters weapon will get you reverse spawn killed by some idiot with painkiller on, as the spawn system is still a massive problem in this game.
EDIT 8-28-10 : Some complaints at this point in the article were just new game connections jitters so I deleted them. I still stand by this next statement however: Games where you die super quickly and super easily NEED dedicated servers and not the horrible host system that is employed on both PC and consoles now, otherwise 1 on 1 face offs become nothing more than connection battles.
There’s no counter to perks like Stopping Power and Cold Blooded. Xbox Live Party Chat is disabled in most playlists for no other reason than to force you to communicate with strangers if you play. Hit detection is still an issue with snipers, and other weapons for that matter. Spawning is still a major issue. Bullets coming from the top of your head and not your gun is still an issue. Painkiller (giving a player double health after dying 3 times in a row) overly rewards people for dying. I can’t search games by good connection like I could in WaW (Aussies really fucking need this feature) and there’s still no map preferencer, so I’m forced to play IW’s terrible maps. Host migration DOESN’T work the majority of the time. When the host leaves during an airstrike or predator missle drop, it glitches you out of it. I could go on and on. The game took 1 step forward, 20 steps back in my opinion. Nothing was fixed except grenade spam and many, many more problems and flaws were added.
In conclusion, the game is just so flawed and skill equalized its not fun, whether I’m the one killing or I’m the one dying. And honestly, I feel deeply for those of you who spent $60 on this game and am disappointed like I am. Back to COD4 and WaW I guess, until Bad Company 2 comes out at least.
EDIT: I have been informed that the developers for MW2 have k/d ratios below 1. I think the best k/d any of the devs have is actually .74 or something. That explains a lot.
Ok well i agree with you half and half. I think this game does suck after a while because it seems SO slow. When i played COD4 it was ALWAYS someone killing someone. Now its just too slow. 9 assault rifles all with no recoil and all long range. Thats just frickin unfair to SMG users. But it does become fun after you level up for quite a bit. I think they should have taken COD4 completely then just redesign that. rather than redesigning the entire game.
I stumbled onto this site looking for general info on Cod42 and thinking about joining a multilayer game for the first time. Shit you guys are so hard core its nothing short of frightening. Its a computer game. Unless your competing professionally for the big bucks you are living a twisted unbalanced reality. Get a damn life. The sheer predatory streaks I read here are nothing short of disgusting.
I agree I think I wasted 60 bucks too. Also here are some things I hate about it:
1. The maps are HUGE and some of them like Wasteland for example are poorly designed because it’s so open. Some guy destroyed our team with an ac-130 and there were at least 5 people camping in the underground part.
2. The lag: Is it just me or does it sometimes take 10 minutes to find a game, just to lag out?
3. The campers: Especially the ones with the heartbeat sensor, it seems that everyone has their M4A1 with a heartbeat sensor camping out in a window and raping everyone.
I have to agree on all points. Since the first match I played I didn’t like it, and now, 31 levels later, my taste hasn’t changed. It’s just not fun, even after that few times I went 28 and 2.
Guess I’ll be popping WaW back in and enjoying that again… don’t know why I love WaW’s online so much but it sure hell beats the shit out of MW2’s.
I agree with most everything that you said. I was really disappointed by the 3rd person perspective in cage match. Cage matches were my favorite in COD4, but I can’t stand the new perspective. Also, what you were saying about the killstreaks making it more about luck than skill is right on.
Ok, I totally respect your opinion of the game. I recognize that certain aspects of this game have been disappointments (i.e. respawns, host migration, partying). I acknowledge that the first MW was more balanced & original. But let me say just two things. First, the whole arguments about balance, weapon power, k/d ratio, I think are nit-picking. Those are arguments being made by hardcore gamers, & they’re legit arguments. But hardcore gamers make up a minority. The average gamers playing MW2 are either casual gamers or nubes. What you call ‘balance’ when discribing COD4, most others never really noticed. There seems to be so much more to do in this game. There hasn’t been a day where I haven’t play MW2 since November 10th. The reason for that is simple: this game is just more fun. Yeah, it’s a bit more nube-friendly, but so what? It’s more balanced for everybody. The 9 assault rifles in this game are a little over-powered, but did you see how us casual gamers & nubes faired in COD4 when pitted against the dedicated. We got pwned. Constantley. It seems that that has been taken away, & it feels great! In COD4, only the talented could have their day in the sun. In MW2, anybody (with enough practice) can have theirs. So all you hardcore gamers &/or hardcore COD fans who’ve been disappointed by this game, I feel sorry for you. Cause us casuals & nubes are having a blast! Maybe one shouldn’t worry too much about k/d ratios & just worry bout having fun. Second, why is everyone trashing the SMG’s? If you think the SMG’s aren’t very good in MW2, than you haven’t tried the P90 with the Akimbo attachment. I rape with that!
I pretty much completely agree with this. I’ve put over 24 hours into MW2 online and I went back to the original tonight, I can safely say the gameplay, customization options, and maps in CoD4 are far better, and more balanced from a competitive standpoint. The maps in MW2 seem to have almost no thought put into them for game modes besides team deathmatch and domination. For Sabotage, Headquarters Search & Destroy, and CTF, 70+% of the maps are horribly unbalanced, as well as things like the riot shield… Honestly, 2-3 riot shielders crouching in a corner of a small room in HQ Pro is retarded… For the record, I also thought the maps in the map pack for CoD4 are rubbish too, I vote skip them every time even though I paid for them… A ton of maps in MW2 look make Countdown and Bloc from CoD4 look like masterpieces.
you guys are delusional or you suffer from “nolstalgia effect”, which will always be present in the online multiplayer community (cod4 was better than cod6, cod 2 was even better, and so on). I’m not going to say that you are wrong or whatever, but i can say one thing: since I play MW2 i swear way less than what i did when I played cod4: I’m not a camper and when i finish my games bottom line my K/D is 2.2. I’m not a great player but i consider myself an “above average” player.
To Blame Truth:
I used to be a subscriber of yours, one month ago I unsubcribed to yout channels and occasionaly visit your site. Probably in real life you are a cool guy etc, but on the internet you simply whine like a pathetic bitch: cod4 sucks, waw sucks even more, mw2 is a monument of sucking etcetera. You pose yourself as a competitive player, or at least a player that hardly has any fun at all except when he has good scores. Let me tell you something: you chose the easy way, which means jut complaining, and you never tried other shooters that contemplate skill.
there are a lot of alternatives: first you could try promod on cod4 pc, or you could try Counter Strike; you did neither of those options.
as of your complaints about mw2, you are right about assault rifles, spawning, netcode, but you can’t continue this BS while posting videos for revenue, you are ridicoulus. In Italy it is called “spit in the plate you are eating from”, think about it
Cod4 is way better than MW2.
The assault rifles are overpowered, the poor SMG choices in this game don’t help either. So then they put in the Israelian Tavor, which is an AR specifically designed for better close range combat, but as powerful as an m16.
The only thing I really like about this game is the Bling Perk. It annoyed me in CoD4 to have only a stock sight with a silencer.
Now, this is what IW needs to do.
Remove Carepackages and Emergency Drops completely. Now most of you fags who use them will say they usually don’t have anything good in the. You little daisies can piss off because they do have a chance for something good. Which is based on luck and not skill.
Finally a free map pack that actually has Good maps to play on.
Until then Cod4 will be loaded up
LMAO this article mentions EVERYTHING i was thinking
im so glad that there are so many true hardcore fans that can agree with these problems, ive been saying all this since day one. this game just dosent seem balanced at all,
and yes it does appear as if the game has been tailored to benefit younger/newer or just plain shit players of the series its quite sad actually because this game could of been everything but the DEVS i feel have caused some serious problems, the battle of connections sure seems true the amount of times ive turned my system off in rage beacause ive encountered someone in close quarters and unloaded a full clip into someone and theyve turned round with a 3 burst assault rifle and just capped me with one bullet, i am around level 50 now but it hasnt been the best fun ive had tbh, IW can fix these problems, we just need to really let them know how were feeling.

the game is awsome just stop coplaining because you suck and blame truth and a couple other people have there reasons but some fanboys out there like the game but they are always up blame truths ass and say every thing he says blame truth is good and he has reasons do the rest of you -____-
Its a Bad Game. However I think Da Citizen is absolutely right, and people have adapted to the game, terrable spawns + overpowered weapons = camping + tubing.
This guy nailed the most important reasons why COD6 is not as fun as COD4. Getting +30 kills in a match and being completely bored is quite a sad experience. All the random crap that takes place in the game is just hilarious or frustrating (depending on your attitude). Rushing into enemy spawn points always ends in epic fail when the painkiller goon waddles towards you. Thankfully my expectations were low so it doesn’t matter. I guess I will just wait for BC2.
Completely agree on all issues! I Have put a good solid amount of time into the game and quite frankly it is just not any fun. Randomness eliminates skill needed. I mean just look at the progression of the games.
CoD2 had no perks and no custom classes and it was a little more focused on the pure reaction and knowledge of the player. No attachments and all that jazz. It wasn’t perfect, trust me, but I think you should get my point.
Skip 3 and go to CoD4
Cod4 wanted to equalize the game and that makes sense don’t get me wrong. In fact I think they did an amazing job in balancing the playing field. Yes it had its similar issues with spawns and connections and whatnot but I say great go! Fun game love it to death even with its issues. The whole camping or thinking more tactical argument that seems to pop up when anyone mentions issues about the game. I do see you point but I have played many types of FPS games and this game does not seems made for it. In fact the whole super tactical thing kinda went out the window with the introduction of perks I think. This could go either way so moving on heh.
Now MW2…. eh they seemed to have crossed a bad threshold or just went a little to far. Blametruth explains many of the issues. Here after their track record you would think that they would have found the sweet balance after a few tries at it. Sadly as much as I see how millions still play it is just the massive amount of hype that was created.
Not saying this game will go to the dumps but every room I have played in out of the hundreds of matches that I have played in has had someone that has brought up one or multiple issues that Blametruth talks about. That gives hints that something is a little more fishy then CoD4’s issues.
Either way it is a good game I give credit where credit is due. Sadly it lacks the heart that all the previous IW installments have had. I hope they lose some of the random factors of the game and also the “fav” spawning issues that is plaguing a potentially even greater game. Hopefully this whole thing on how they built the game so they can patch things much quicker and easier isn’t just them talking.
To CoD lovers and haters
Play games that are fun for you, that’s why we play them heh!
I do agree with you on the Spawning and one and one battles being nothing more then connection battles. The killcams definately at times show different things to what actually happened. In regards to assault rifles the only one I believe which is over-powered is the FAMAS. one burst of that with stopping power and your good as dead. The disabling of XBOX live party chat in certain playlists I believe is a good thing, it promotes you to use more teamwork and communicate with your random teammates better however it’s not a good thing when your just having a friendly conversation and some random idiot tells you to shut up and acts all hard etc..
I’ve joined games with a party of 4 or more people with no problems unlike with WaW so I’m not sure how your having problems with it.
I must agree as well. The Campaign and Spec-Ops are the only parts I like of this game. However, the Multiplayer is gay. There are no small maps in the game, like COD4, so the SMGs are obselete in every way. Assualt Rifles are way too overpowered, the killstreaks are fucked up, and the thing that pisses me off the most, is the spawning. When I spawn, I want to spawn in an area with no enemies in the vicinity. However, in Modern Warfare 2, I spawn a lot in enemy fire or in front of enemies. This game was a huge letdown in the Multiplayer. However, the Campaign and the Spec-Ops make it worth the buy in my opinion.
Just going to copy paste what I said on the MW2 Xbox360 part of the IW forums, but:
I agree with this completely.
I’ll admit that I enjoy MW2, but it has so many more flaws than CoD4. As the guy OP quoted said, the biggest thing the game lacks is balance.
Perks are overpowered, I’ve been saying this since I found out about what each does. Especially with pro versions of each perk, they make good perks, even better. Perks like Stopping Power no longer have a counter in Jugg, and Cold-Blooded is just a much superior version of UAV Jammer. Not to mention other great perks like Bling and One Man Army which are just ridiculously good. The perks in CoD4 definitely felt a lot more balanced and basic.
Killstreak rewards are definitely overpowered. In CoD4, I can only remember about twenty or so times where I’ve gotten a kill streak of above 25 in the two years I’d played it, and even then, I’d only just be able to get over it. I’ve gotten 25+ in MW2 at least double that number in the past 2 weeks alone. Whilst getting a 15KS in CoD4 wasn’t a big deal, actually getting to 20 or 25 felt like an achievement. The only rewarding thing about getting a 25+KS in this game is knowing that I can nuke everybody afterwards.
The netcode is definitely worse. The hitboxes seem bigger in this game, I can’t remember how many times I’ve been shot around a corner, or shot someone who was around a corner. Or even had hits register when I know I’ve missed someone. The game winning killcam is definitely a good show of this.
The maps are really badly designed in MW2. With them being so busy and crowded with buildings and corridors, it promotes campy gameplay. You can hide somewhere, knowing fully that you’re pretty safe from all but one or two points of entry, which are also bottlenecked. Whereas in CoD4, the maps were much more open, if you knew a camper was in a building, chances were that you could light it up from halfway across the map at the very least and kill the camper.
Like I said, I’m enjoying MW2, but I wouldn’t be suprised if I resume playing CoD4 instead before long. I just find it funny how one of my friends is trying to get the 2.00+KDR he could never get in CoD4, but still being unable to get it in this.
Dont listen to this dude. He whines about every COD game that comes out. There is always something wrong about the game hes playing. Well guess what? Thats life. If all you do is bitch about everything bad in life, like death, murder, cheating, then you are going to hate life and not look at all the good aspects of it. It is the same for this game. If all you do is look at the bad, you miss the good. So what if theres bad spawning or overpowered guns. You play this game to have fun, not to be like this loser and pick them apart at the neck. Blametruth if you don’t like the game, then try this. DONT PLAY IT!! EVeryone including you just bitches and cries about oh this sucks and that sucks. Don’t play it and go find another game, the other 800 thousand people playing this game will have fun like me. Its a great game that looks amazing, plays amazing, and is the worth the money. This is just like the console wars, you whine and bitch about whats bad instead of being amazed by how far video games have come in the last 10 years. Just have fun playing video games with your friends and millions of other people around the world, that is why they were created in the first place. if you dont have anything good to say, then dont say anything at all.
You must be one of those fagget campers cuz u sound alot like them stupidass morons at the end of a match that talks shit cuz he got alot of kills and no deaths and didnt really do ne thing but sit there and play with yourself staring down the sight of ur lameass assault rifle with coldblooded and ninja on, learn to play the game for what its supposed to be and not take every advantage u can with ur rapid fire mod, lag switch or corner camping.
I agree this game sucks. I unlocked the nuke two days ago and ive had four nukes and don’t get me wrong, ending the game feels as good as being laid but because of how little heath you get in the game it takes me quite a few games to get the kill streak because the game is about luck, the luck to get the harrier strike, the luck to hide somewhere good, and the luck it doesnt get shot down for the chopper gunner and then the nuke. I was also disappointed that my favorite guns, the w1200 and the ak74u were not in the game, as i feel if the nuke was in cod 4 i would’ve had ten by now.
The fact that they created a death reward that protects from spawn killing goes to show that they didnt fix the spawn system. I want to like this game so much, but I just keep being reminded of how fucked up it really is. Let down of the year for sure
I have not played many online FPS games; I started with Goldeneye and the first online FPS I played was probably WaW, so I don’t know what non-CoD FPSs are like (I’ve played Halo 3 and GoW2 though).
My opinion of MW2 is that I just play it for fun. Honestly, the only way for me to build up killstreaks is to play a very campy/defensive sniper (shooting anyone who comes to B is defense, right?), but that doesn’t even work too well because people shoot down my air support almost immediately and/or I get counter-sniped. So then I whip out the trusty n00b t00b+danger close or a stealth or a straight-up SMG class and go 1:1 or like 1.25:1 or even 1:5 and I have fun.
Sure there are problems like 3+ members in a party rarely joining a game together, or the god-awful spawning, but I have hope that that shit will get patched. I mean, what could IW be doing atm anyways? Giving each other piggy back rides?
WOw, just wow. This really disappointed me hearing this, especially seeing as just got back form picking it up at the store. I loved the cod4 and that is alot of what ive been seeing in all the videos ive seen, but i just had to get it still. I still gonna put hope into it seeing as its only been 11 days since the release. Hopefully people that camp will get bored and move on, and that there will be patches to do things to help with this. It probably wont help, but shit its worth a try, to send mail to IW about patching it or SOMETHING, because i dont want to open this up a regret buying it 2 or 3 weeks down the line
Unfortunately, you will be..
hopefully, modern warfare 2 is not such a disapointment 2 me as to all these people because i am having much trouble paying $34.50 i still owe to gamestop for this game. :[ i love your videos mann there amayzing
This guy will never be happy with whatever game comes out on the market.
He hated waw.
Modern Warfare 1 bored him.
And mow MW 2 is apparently bad as well.
He is one bitchy and opinionated person. His pessimism sickens me. I’m done with this guy.
It’d be one thing if his complaints weren’t valid. However, they are, and this game BLOWS. You’re just a fanboy of the CoD series. There are too many flaws to even mention in this game. CoD4 was a masterpiece, one of the best games of all time. This game isn’t nearly as good. It’s okay by most people’s standards, but there are too many faults in the multiplayer for me to even consider this a good game. Seriously, this game BLOWS.
Please stop making me want to throw up guys, stop defending this pile of crap.
The fact that you all love CoD4’s MP so much speaks volumes about not only how you play FPS but why. You obviously prefer fun to truly competitive balance, strategy and skill. While this is not inherently a bad thing, as we can’t all be Fatal1ty, what on EARTH is the point of a CoD game that ruins your fun?!
Recent CoD games simply cannot match some other FPS games on the market from a competitive standpoint, being much more random and about luck… Honestly what I read from the post here was that this is just an exaggeration (albeit an extreme one) on the initial problems with CoD4.
If you’re bad at FPS games, or games in general, why should those of us who enjoy hard fragging and work hard to be good have our games watered down for the lightweight, casual, or simply inept gamer? For example; “but most of us are not good players, so IW had to try and deal with the bad players as well, since they paid just as much as you did for the game. Bad players got their low amount of sway/recoil in the guns and also in the deathstreaks. You have to admit, IW was really trying to cater to a wide variety of players with varying skill, which is really hard to do.”
This statement made me facepalm with disquieting ferocity. If you are bad, you should EXPECT to go bad. To be down the bottom. If you are average, you should expect to be somewhere in the middle. Why on Earth would you see a feature that enables a bad player to do very well – potentially topping – as a good one? That simply is a way of saying “Person A should win, he’s better. But we don’t want Person B to feel bad, so what we’ll do is let him win instead, because we’re nice
” No, because you’re an absolute fucking moron IW.
And of course, then IW go ahead and ruin the entire infrastructure of the multiplayer experience. So instead of getting what you usually would with an FPS, that being bad players being able to go into a server commonly frequented by his fellow gorilla thumbed idiot, so that he’s not constantly being smashed in the face with ten tonnes of distilled ownage, he can’t control where he’s put, and he’ll often be shoved into the crosshairs of those who can actually aim (I hear the CoD franchise has somewhere around 3), but who, due to the autonomous and therefore inherently FAIL system employed for MP, are perceived as being of equal skill, for reasons stated quite clearly in the original post. It’s not as if it’s evening the playing field out, its just equally pissing everyone off.
I could go on forever, but to make a long story short…
CoD gamers, no matter what IW do to you, you will love them for it, that’s how it seems to the rest of us.
They make a crappy random messy game, and you call it a masterpiece. Okay, you don’t know what you’re saying as you’ve never been a part of a serious gaming league so I can forgive you part time pub randies for that.
They make said crappy random messy game even crappier, random-er and messier, and still you praise it.
What, precisely, is wrong with you? Kick them in the teeth for this stupid equalized skill server BS, like they deserve, and that’s just for starters.
I totally agree with you on this, people praise this piece of shit game too much, and surprise surprise, the people who praise it are the ones who cried and got what they wanted, leaving all the hardcore gamers out in the cold to get fucking camped by three people aiming down the sights of their guns waiting for someone to cross them so they can stop jerking off and pull the trigger and call themselves “good”. The camping in this game is ten times worse then cod4, nothing gets to hardcore gamers worse then someone who doesnt move throughout the whole match and gets a 25-0 KDR, then as soon as the match is over starts talking shit like hes the greatest cod player that ever lived. The only way im gonna keep MW2 is if IW fixes the camping prob and the spawning prob, and the map prob,…… well IW is screwed then cuz they might as well just fix the entire fucking game cuz the only decent thing about it was campaign and thats just barely decent enough to keep MW2 as a paperweight. In closing, the lameass campers can have this game cuz i dont want it ne more.
Modern warfare 2 has great story but bad multiplayer, it gets annoying because everyone uses the heartbeat sensor like lassie finding timmy in the well. Camos and callsigns are the only thing i like about online
I really like your videos and you are one helluva player. You certainly make some valid points, but MW2 doesn’t suck IMHO. I actually like MW2 better than COD4 which I’m sure in your mind means I suck. LOL! Anyway, I think the maps are richer and deeper. I like the perks and the guns, though I will agree the AR’s are a bit strong. The camping in TDM is worse than I like, but I almost exclusive play the objective games and it’s not that bad. The spawning sytem is the one thing I really don’t like. It really needs to be improved. There are other things that annoy me, but it’s only the spawning that drives me nuts. All-n-all I think MW2 is a step in the right direction and hopefully with updates/patches it will be further refined and improved upon.
well at least xcalizorz is still playing and has not given up
the game is good you just cannot rush as much they did lots better dont be mad just because you stink at the game just dont rush, because you were good in cod4 dont think you will be good in this its a different game so dont rush and check your corners I had a little of th same prob but I stoped rushing and checked more of my corners and I went from 5-15 to 25-8 so this might help or might not so……….
He said he has a 3:1 K/D in MW2, I wouldn’t call that sucking. It’s just a matter of having different tastes and thus MW2 not appealing to some of us, even if we do well.
I went back to cod 4 yesterday. The maps in MW 2 annoy me to much, there is ALWAYS someone in a building you run buy. I can’t turn around a corner or whatsoever. And i usually have 2 bars which means when it comes 1 to 1 i pretty much always lose even when i know my aim is better. On cod 4 i rarele have 2 bars but even than i did good. But on this game im just not able to do so. Most likely because i love using smg’s and as you stated assault rifles messes it up by being so damn accurate even at close quaters. Im currently prestige 6 on cod 4 i think, so untill im 10 pres i prob won’t be playing mw 2.
whats your gamertag?
Chet89 add me if you want =)
Put it in and after 2 mins. I knew it was bad. COD4 multiplayer games would end with my kill/death ratio at 20/8, and now 10/32…..wtf? Im glad to see that Im not the only one who thought the game is bad all round.
I have found it the same let down dude (I even got pissed at the helmet gun hidden perk). Here is what I posted to the forums:
Been thinking this more over the past few days and I am even more sure in my opinion that MW2 MP is no where near as good as MW1 / Cod 4 MP.
Here are my reasons:
Assault Rifles are dumbed down with no idle sway and they have sniper like precision across large distances. Before in Cod 4 it was only the M16 which was overpowered (but equaled to a degree by a 3 round burst), now its near on all guns with zero idle sway and amzing range. One of things I enjoyed about MW1 was learning the character of the gun’s. For example the AK47 – sure it would recoil like a bucking bronco, but when I learned to control its unique character using short bursts..well it was a hard earned love that I found.
SMG’s have no real advantage over AR’s. In cQc the tar-21 matches the fire rate of most SMG’s and there is not a great deal of difference in mobility. This was a more clearer definition between the two gun types in Cod 4. With a Mp5 you could move and strafe and rip through players carrying AR’s, although to balance it you did not have the same range as them out in the open. Now its just seems AR and SMG’s are near on the same in cQc, but the SMG’s have no equal out for range.
To me all of this equaling out brings the game down to the mercy of who has the better connection, not who has the better class strategy for the situation / map at hand.
Map’s never rotate well and you end up doing the same map all the time. They are all full of balcony’s / windows and roof tops. This leads to what someone else described well as ‘whack a mole’ syndrome where people pop up and down at Windows for most of the match. Anyone wanting some fun that goes traveling around is at a disadvantage to window campers; Think about this you need to transcend a corner with your whole body in view to someone crouched at a window that has this hidden perk which allows them to shoot out the top of their head. Sure Cod 4 had windows, but they were limited in view and fewer in number for all maps apart from china town (which is the least popular map with most). When you compare MW2 maps (quarry – euugh!) to classics like Ambush, District, Overgrown and Pipeline, well for me there are no where near as well laid out for making a balanced map for all game types (run and gun, or camp and window hog ).
No party chat. Why? So some guy who never says shit does not feel lonely when I play with my mates?
Super Mario Pop-ups: All this stuff popping up on the screen all the time, don’t get me wrong its not a game killer, but it makes the whole experience arcade like instead of a first person war shooter.
I am sure some of you will disagree which is fine and dandy in the democracy of a forum, but for me I will keep playing it for fun as it is a good game, but I am sure over the next 2 months or so I will eventually leave behind this game like many others i have had and put in that well worn Call of Duty 4 disc and hear again the word’s ‘Let’s do this.’
Keep thinking of more:
Secondary weapons: I love them, but why bother with an SMG class if someone carrying a .50 barrett can whip a a mini-uzi or PP-2000 on you.
Another one:
Snipers can one shot kill me when even there own kill cam shows they miss and shoot to the side of me missing my body. From my side of the view I have managed to get behind an impenetrable surface (such as a rock face in afghan) to then find myself suddenly die.
Are you still going to do the playthrough?
yes
Blametruth, I could not have put it better myself. You have captured my thoughts on this game perfectly. I don’t have any fun while playing it, and it really disappoints me that everyone camps just to get killstreak rewards. I’ve tried camping, but it’s just not my idea of fun or what a good game is really about. Thank you for expressing the disappointment we share of MW2.
agreed on everthing that was said.
lag is terrible, games are ruined by lucky care packages, weapons are all basically mini clones of each other, campers in every window/corner and party system is broken.
this has got to be the worst online experience I’ve ever had with a shooter. IW spent too much time focusing on their pretty new graphics, callsigns, emblems, killstreaks and other customizable bullshit. the killfeed showing up in the center of the screen is also fucked up, when I’m using a heartbeat sensor and kill someone, their name covers the goddamn screen.
matchmaking system is a joke, australians get nothing but paired up with players from the other side of the world who supposedly have best connections to host for everybody… except for the aussies.
can’t believe I waited all this time and spent money getting the prestige edition for this piece of shit, biggest letdown of the year.
summary: fuck this piece of shit game, campaign is the only decent feature, but not a redeeming factor to say the least.
100% agree on mostly everything certainly the reverse spawn deaths they piss me off so bad I rage quit 3 times yesterday. Though I have ps3 so some stuff I don’t experience. Though I spend $182.96 exactly on it cause I got prestige edition and a MW2 controller T.T so disappointed.
I agree on many points in your article, but to say it took 1 step forward and 20 steps back is a little to the extreme. Connection is a big part of this game, and in the end you can’t really fix that, there may be minor things but it wont make the difference that you (and probably the majority of people) would ultimately want.
You are a very good player, there’s no doubt about that, but most of us are not good players, so IW had to try and deal with the bad players as well, since they paid just as much as you did for the game. Bad players got their low amount of sway/recoil in the guns and also in the deathstreaks. You have to admit, IW was really trying to cater to a wide variety of players with varying skill, which is really hard to do.
I think you’re also comparing this too much to cod4, when in reality they are two very different games. IW did, imo, a great job in making the maps a lot less linear, you can’t just rush and look straight ahead, you have to look up, around, and everywhere around, which takes awhile to get used to. In the end it’s just a completely different style of gameplay, and I think everybody just needs to stop comparing it to cod4
At this point in time, It seems that the mw2 servers are having some trouble by themselves, Everybody seems to be 3 bar, and overtime it should even out, so hopefully it’s not a long lasting issue. Snipers being the most effected by the connection, obviously, making it really hard to deal with, but not impossible. The killcams have hardly ever been accurate, so really all they can be used for is to find the position of the guy who shot you.
Killstreaks do encourage camping, but I found myself still having to move around a lot to get anything about 10. Your example in the killstreak was overly biased (although the entire article is, which i understand, but that particular example just seemed to be over the top). People are really starting to figure out that harriers/chopper gunners/attack choppers and even predator missiles can easily be shot down. making you use the pavelow, giving you a higher chance to die, and ac130, which it seems is more balanced than the chopper gunner by far. The chopper gunner needs to be fixed so it doesnt hover over camp sites and/or has turret overheat or something else to help it be balanced
There are a lot of new players and everybody is new to the game as a whole which equals a lot of camping, it happened it cod4 in the beginning too, but it will even itself out. IW did put explosives by popular camping spots, which is a little nice feature, you have to admit.
Overall though it’s just way to early to tell how these issues will play out. Xbox parties will probably be allowed in all playlists soon besides maybe S&D, which might just kick you out of the party if you have friends in the party in the same room. Connection issues have always been a problem for newly released games and I expect them to resolve that soon. IMO, I think IW will pay attention to major problems at least for the first few weeks to fix them and keep people playing.
And as for guns being overpowered, I disagree. I use smg’s just as much as AR’s and there doesnt seem to be a predominant weapon. I get killed and gets kills just as much with each type. Stopping power doesnt seem to make that big of a difference on most guns, and cold blooded is just uav jammer with the addition to being undetected by thermal scope, which I still have no problem seeing them.
I like this game, but i put the disc in not expecting anything, I just wanted to enjoy what it had to offer. I looked at the good things in brought in, and I’m not putting that much weight on the bad things, since IW has the chance to fix within the first few weeks/months. I especially don’t try and exaggerate the bad things, since I know cod4 and most other games had the problems (”inaccurate” killcams, connection battles, overpowered guns etc) and it’s just going to be a part of the games, but they don’t ruin them.
The javelin does piss me off though, along with commando, since there are quite a few tight spots in all the maps, and it just gets overwhelming.
I hope you do eventually pop the game back in, take a deep breath, and just play it as if it were your first call of duty game, because I think it really isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. I feel like you are one of the people that expected everything you ever wanted in a game and ended up enjoying nothing about it. But I think everybody was a little disappointed, but that’s what happens when you hype a game up as much as everybody did.
You do make some very valid points that do need to be fixed, and I still have faith in IW that they will fix those problems. Sorry if it’s a bit lengthy.
100%agree
So damn true. I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t all that bad (mostly because I didn’t wanna believe how much money I just spent on it for it to suck).
And it’s not even as though the campaign is a consolation. It seems like an afterthought, as though IW were only worried about multiplayer. Spec ops is just a rehash of campaign levels with different objectives and IW only seems to care about packing new features into their games, not fixing old ones. They have created a random mess of a game. Random respawns, terrible connections, host migrations that only work 1 in 3 times, overpowered guns, overpowered killstreaks and irritatingly random maps; there are too many random crevices or stupid spawn places. I cannot count the amount of times I have respawned, walked forward a tiny bit and been shot because I’ve respawned right next to an enemy, or a grenade, or an airstrike.
It’s the most frustrating game ever and IW have really proved they only care about one thing: taking your hard earned money.
I agree with most of this, seems like things are a little worse for Xbox at the moment, which is somewhat strange to me.
Anyway, the Spawning System is crap, I actually think even COD4’s was better, and I was getting tired of that before Mw2 came out.
The amount of Campers is unreal, as you said, this game doesn’t reward aggresive play at all, but half the time when you arn’t even playing agressive when you kill someone you nearly always get shot by someone sitting in a window just waiting, aka camping.
I have endlessly walked into rooms to find people lying down in corners just waiting to kill you.
I’m going to continue to play this game, if it continues to get as annoying as it is right now I will probably go back to COD4.
And by the way, does this mean you are going to stop making the “Let’s Player CODMW” Video’s? Seeing as the issues are online, not in the campign.
I am still continuing the Lets Play, no worries
That’s good to hear, keep up the good vids!
ya man i agree completely with u this game is very fun when i screw around but when i try hard and fuck up i get sooo pissed off..btw am i the first to comment on this?
Sorry, but IMO this game is a lot better that CoD4, and although IW have milked the game to its core – I think they fixed many problems 4 had. The guns are more balanced IMO, by just powering them up. The maps, a lot better and many maps can be used for different strategies. The perks I prefer, such as unlocking them by using them and also the attachments work a lot better as there are multiple choices per gun which adds a lot more variety to the game; whereas CoD4 it was M16 – RDS, and on WaW MP40 w/ Dual Mags. The killstreaks are overpowered, yes, but still it only takes a switch if a class to use a javelin to send those Harriers/Chopper Gunners/AC130s down. Personally, i’ve had no party fuck ups, or much lag for that matter, and the hosting system is much more efficent that its predecessors. The main things that piss me off on MW2 is the amount of camping and spawn killing, but other that them, I think its an awesome game. I have also been saying they should have a ‘barebones’ game type since CoD4, for players to play with next to no advantage. I’m not trying to be a defensive whore anyway:/
Ok, granted IW made some bullshit decisions with the connections, but I have had no prob with the weapon balance, or camping. It might just be good luck on my part, but if I play smart and run out there with say, an UMP, I won’t get spawn raped at all. I’ll just die if I make a bad decision. It seems like Stopping Power does nothing at all anymore, so I don’t know why thats even a problem anymore its like one extra bullet to kill without. The killstreaks are ridiculous but you can’t tell me its not fun to anally rape the other team over and over with a chopper gunner. Snipes always blew. MW2 wasn’t what I expected but its a damn good game. I respect your opinion, but not enough to not write this long ass comment. Good day, sirs.
I respect your opinion and can see where your views are coming from, but I think killstreaks are just part of the fun. Sure, it sucks dick when some jerk is in a chopper gunner and killing your entire team over and over again, but it pays off when you can do it back to them.
Anyways, there’s still campaign and Spec Ops to have fun in if you’re truly fed up with the game already.
I agree with you post nearly completely (though WaW is far worse in my opinion). Unfortunately, I really don’t have any other top-tier FPS to play anymore, until I get a PS3, so I’ll be playing this. I was upset you won’t be doing commentary on this as often as CoD4 cause you’re funny as hell. Until I read this:
“Until Bad Company 2 comes out at least.”
And then the world got a little bit better, knowing you’ll be commentating (or at least trying) this. Amen brother, amen
BT, MP was a letdown for me as well. Oh well, I guess I’ll try WAW again….
Interesting. There are some points I must disagree with you (respectfully) on.
In your 1st video of MW2 Multiplayer, you state that you feel the perks are very balanced. Did a few more hours of playing before writing this change your opinion completely?
You also state here that Painkiller overly rewards people for dying. Seeing that Painkiller lasts for only 10 seconds after spawning, I’d like to believe that it’s simply a spawn kill prevention measure.
As for the maps having obscure places to camp: its kind of true, but this game just came out a week ago…perhaps you aren’t used to maps yet?
Also, your example of the player who ends with a better score because of his streak rewards seems like a poor one. If the same 7-and-5 player didn’t get those 3 kills with that predator missile, he’d be up the stream without a paddle and would probably die before he could manually up his streak to his Harrier, assuming that this player isn’t as skilled as the 20 and 2 player.
Luck has always played a factor in shooter games. If a player somehow managed to beat the odds and get all of his killstreak rewards, and then somehow gain an optimized amount of kills from them, it is obviously luck. That’s just how it is sometimes.
In COD4, I remember my first (and only) 40 kill streak was due to planting an airstrike on a team that had just respawned; I got something like 7-9 kills from that airstrike, and 10 more from my chopper. From a person who isn’t that great and usually gets just 2:1, 2.5:1 K/Ds, I’d say that was an example of how I did less work than a person with a higher K/D and got a higher score just because luck happened to turn my way. And also, it never happened again.
I will have to respectfully disagree with your conclusion that getting a high score in MW2 is about building a kill streak rather than outgunning due to your example.
Things that I DO agree with you here:
Assault rifles overpowered (FAMAS is the new laser-tag weapon.)
Spawning system still sucks (@#%!$@% hate spawns behind me).
Netcode and server connections are as crappy as you say, even on PC.
Not being able to search by connection.
Bullets coming out of the top of players’ heads is bad.
I would also like a map preference option.
Host Migration issues (!!!!!)
On the other hand, the game just came out. Who’s to say that IW won’t patch it? Here’s hoping.
From a “Hardcore” fan (I watched your Pokemon Let’s Play videos, that qualifies right?
),
Winston from Hawai’i
PS: Long time watcher, first time poster. I love your vids and commentary, keep it up.
I have played Cod4 for such a long time, i was ready for MW2. Reading the Perks, Killstreaks and weapons i knew there had to be flaws but nothing compared to what I expected.
Its a shame really, you can tell IW tried to make this game appeal to players who are under the age of 10, or players who like to sit in little corners or even MLG try-hards. But in trying to patch Cod4 flaws, they’ve decided to bring a whole new level of bullshit into MW2.
I think Death-streaks, riot shields, NoobTubes or even Killstreaks arn’t the main problems to why this game is this bad, its Camping! Eek, PyroPuncher released a new FFA if you havnt seen it, he just sat in the same spot and scored 30-0. It really was the best 5 minutes I have ever spent watching a video.
After playing this game Ive come to the conclusion that I need to be drunk to play this game and enjoy it, so every Saturday night i’ll camp my ass off.
To surmise, if its all more balanced, then you need to adapt to learn how to play better than your opponents.
There are guys out there getting 75-5 games, who manage to avoid the barage of arial firepower.
It was the same with Gears 2, people cried when it changed, and they couldn’t eg shotgun out of a roadie run, or whatever. Learn how to play the game then!
At the end of the day, whatever the game looks like, everyone has the same at their disposal.
